Baronessa
1998 Imported German Oldenburg Verband Mare
Day Dream / Rubinstein I / Westminster
Baronessa died suddenly and tragically on August 24, 2011 during a brief hospitalization for a hock swelling that was later complicated by a cecal impaction. “If love could have saved her, she would still be with us today.”
Baronessa was a striking black mare with a “look at me” presence that got her noticed wherever she went. She was branded and registered German Oldenburg Verband and was imported to the U.S. in 2001. She was Main Studbook approved for breeding with the German Oldenburg Verband, American Hanoverian Society and the Westfälischen Pferdestammbuch eV. Baronessa was one of only a handful of Day Dream offspring in the U.S. and she was also the 3/4 sister to Decor Dreamcatcher, the former PSI auction horse and Pavo Cup champion ridden by Mirelle van Kemenade.
Baronessa was a proven FEI competitor who was trained in all of the Grand Prix movements by JJ Tate and competed successfully with many scores in the high 60s at Prix St. Georges. Perhaps most impressive, Baronessa was a Grade IV Para Equestrian mount for her AA rider, who had owned her since shortly before her 3rd birthday.
Baronessa was also a successful broodmare. In 2003 she had a Hanoverian filly by Davignport, named Dolcezza, who is competing in dressage with her owner, Kate Burgy. In 2011, she had an Oldenburg colt via embryo transfer by Stedinger named, Shameless, who was given a Premium award and also named a Foal of Distinction. We are so grateful that Baronessa has these lovely progeny to carry on her spirit.
